Are you complete without a Sgian Dubh?

I do happen to have a shillelagh that my mother brought back to the States after living in Ireland for a while. Don't know if it's a proper eveningwear shillelagh, though.
I'm wondering how wide the handle and the blade of a sgian dubh is? I think I have all the other measurements.

Picking one up at random the measurements are as follows:

Overall length (tip of blade to top of pommel): 6-5/8 inches;
Length of grip (tip of pommel to base of blade): 3-1/4 inches;
Width of grip (at base): 1-1/8 inches;
Width of grip (at pommel): 1-1/16 inches;
Thickness of grip (average along length of grip): 5/16-inch;
Width of blade (at grip): 1-1/16 inches.

I know this has been batted about for a while but as I am new to the forum I will post a response on this to start being visible.

First, as a pastor, I see no reason not to carry a sgian dubh or knife of any type unless the location or one's denomination has some prohibition against such carry.

Second as visibly worn in a sock, the sgian dubh should not be considered a concealed weapon. Additionally, local laws outline what maximum blade length is legal to be carried concealed usually 3.5 inches in most states so if it is a question of legality, a shorter than the legal limit sgian dubh could always be carried.

I, as a rule, don't don the kilt without the sgian dubh. Doesn't feel complete without one.

Since I work in education and wear a kilt daily - I am armed only with my razor sharp wit in the classroom - you see I'm afraid I'm not one for sgian don'ts. Were it a formal affair then of course I'd wear a black knife.

Everyone knows that the pocket square is far more dangerous than the sgian dubh... Especially a pocket square with strange designs all over it.

Anyway, I looked over at the Scottish Tartans Museum's sgian dubh page, and I really don't know what I'm supposed to wear with what other than maybe daywear and evening wear on some of them.

I just don't know the guidelines and so on...

I guess no one here has seen what a rock in a handkerchief can do.
