Thats a hell of a move. what draws you down there?
My home town is Invercargill, (2.5 hrs south of duners) another fine scottish settlement, and my brother is currently part of the constabulary there (duners). (our family settled in otago, then moved down to southland). one of the rellies started the invercargill pipeband and caledonian society and built some of the first buildings in that town (invers). the accent of the poeple in the south is different from the rest of NZ, it still has leftovers RRRR's in any of the words which is the influence of all the scots settlers.
you will love it there, we will have to catch up for a speights, as i am frequently down there for work and family occassions...(its only a 3 hour flight top to bottom)

Grand Secretary
When in doubt call fax or e-mail your Grand Lodge that's what they are there for, they represent you so I'm sure they will give you their opinion freely. In our jurisdiction The Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario the dress has been laid out for us by constitutional amendment several years ago, also keep in mind that tails are for Grand Lodge Officers Elected so the P C Jacket may not be suitable for lodge affairs.
Look to the east!! and don't be shy.

It wasn't an offical lodge event per say, it was a church service on a weekend which is more of a tradition than an offical lodge function...

Last week I was wearing my kilt to a lodge event for the first time. The american heritage tartan was very interesting to most and it was interesting just how many stopped to talk of their own family history. Only one of my Brothers was bothered by this. He started going on about "Who died I only see you people at funerals!" Sometimes even those who do good things get lost. After a talk over the issue he shook hands. over all it was a great time and I strongly recomend to go kilted to the lodge or any event.

I'm also a Mason, I do not think that there is any problem to go kilted to the Lodge.
We'll have, in Belgium, a special event in memory of Robert Burns in January and wearing the kilt will be very appreciate.
I just came back from Edinburgh, visiting lodges with a few brothers, if we decide to go kilted in our Lodge, it will be without any problem.
