Still is worn that way up here in the Highlands of Scotland, we don't see many variations of the modern kilt up here, except for those worn by tourist's

Great picture. I have been wondering how the apron was worn, if it went all around, or only covered the front of the kilt. It's always interesting to see the "off-duty" candid pictures of war time such as this.

Great Photo. Life in the filed for the soldier. Neat shot of the over kilt. I've never seen one "fitted" all the way around the waist like that.

Does it look like the lad shaving has some sort of flag or insignia tucked into his hose like a garter flash?

    Wonderful photo!

It looks to me like his flashes are the kind that have the extra loop showing.

Would there be interest in collecting all these wonderful photos and putting them into one easy-to-find spot, sort of like the "Casual" and Dressy" threads?

As a soldier, myself I can appreciate the luxury of soap and water after a stint in the field, but I cannot fathom the conditions those men had to endure. There are pictures on every wall in the 1sr Infantry Division HQ where I work and I have seen Italian, French, German, and other soldiers, but not one single Scottish soldier.
