Kilt alteration question
This is really just for a one off (a play) but I need to modify a ladies kilt/skirt so a lad can fit it (it's a hand-me-down). The thing is, it fits his waist but the hips are much larger. Is there some way I can take that in without messing up the whole lay of the kilt.
The kilt is a bit like this
and also like the one's the girls are wearing here on the main page:

Is this possible or not?

The big questions we have to ask are;
How good are your sewing skills?
&
How much time before the Play?

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

The Aprons on the red example you show, and the ones in your link open on the left. The first thing you will need to do is reverse this. It is a simple matter of re-positioning the straps and making a button hole on the oppisite side.
The Red Skirt has a good wide apron but the ones in your link have narrow aprons. Which style are on the skirt you are actually using?

About 2.5 weeks to the play - 12/21.
I've done alterations/modifications to clothes and costumes before, but never made something from scratch (otherwise I might have thought about doing that).

Neither really. I was trying to show the flatter front but more pleats at the back style. This is closest.

To be honest I didn't think of a loaner. I am in PA, close enough to Pittsburgh if something was there. He's about 28/29 inch waist, which is okay with what I have, but the hips are for more like 38/39.

I am assuming that the 38-39 hips are the kilt and not the lad? Another possible solution, if the borrowing fails, is a Stillwater kilt, they are some quite inexpensive ones that might fit the bill. Check out some of the threads on them. Their speed of shipping is legendary!

If the Skirt you have has darts in the apron you can simply take them out.
This should give you enough room by making the waist bigger to make up the difference in Hip to Waist ratio. Then simply wrap the skirt around your person (outer apron opening on the right hand side) and re-position the straps to fit.
For a one off play costume this may be enough.
