Funkilted weekend....
I got to enjoy some fun times this weekend kilted up! I was a little nervous about both, but glad I manned up and did it. Friday was the agency christmas party, at a local banquet hall. This was the one I was really anxious about as NOONE at work sees me kilted. I wasn't sure how the CEO, etc, would react....anyway, I put on my IOS, with a deep plum shirt, dark charcoal tweed vest and a dark charcoal tie with a fine plum stripe to it. I wore caramel hose, lovat green hose ties and knit hose cuffs from Flamingo Kilts (awesome, BTW...) and a birchwood and horn handled sgian. And of course, some nice dark brown wingtips and black and mahogany sporran from Wyvern Leatherworks. I think I looked smashing, I do say so! I'll attach a pic when I get it sent from one of my secreteries.
Thankfully, everything went great! The first comment I got was from our new COO, who is an effusive hispanic man with a great fashion sense, who walks up to shake my hand and says "Man! I wish I could rock a kilt like you do! I gotta lose a few pounds !" I told him it didn't matter and he'd look great in one. I recieved the whole range of positive comments for the the rest of the night, from "are there bagpipes tonight?" (cluless blonde in the hallway....who was dead serious) to " absulutely FABULOUS!" I even learned that I was not the first! another fellow wore one last year (I missed that one...)
Saturday night I got together for a guys night with some friends at the local Irish pub, the "Parting Glass". We went to hear the band "Hair of the Dog". They're a fabulous contemporary Irish band, and really know how to play the pub crowd. You know, lots of songs about drinking, whiskey, falling down, joining the IRA and winding up in jail kinda stuff. every so often I have this internal dialogue going something like..."should I wear a kilt? Am I overdoing this? Are my friends starting to think I'm losing it?..." Anyway, I answered "yes" to all of the above and wore the tatty Blackwatch pub kilt, a Dropkick Murphy's T-shirt with a Guinness workshirt over it, black sporran, belt, hose and combat boots and had an absolutely outstanding time! The worst question I got was from some drunken lout on Caroline street who says "Hey! I hear you guys are always freeballin' under those things. You freeballin' under there?!" I just gave him a look and said to my buds "Why is it always the guys who ask that question instead of their hot girlfriends?" we all got a laugh and I could hear his girl giving him hell over it from a block away! all told an excellant weekend! Sounds like you had a great kilted weekend. And it is ALWAYS the guys that ask the question, at least in my world.

You know, when you stop & think about that particular remark, Chris, it also indicates that this particular moron had actually seen other guys out & about in kilts, and maybe even talked to them about going kilted . . or at least discussed kilts with somebody!
That in itself is sort of welcome, right? Why, it almost smacks of, dare I say it, progress, if not social evolution?
Anyway, sounds like you took it right in stride & handled the guy just fine!
Heck, as you gave him a laugh, he might even speak politely the next time!
Kilt on, Bro!

Be careful, wearing a kilt to work and out on the town can get to be a habit
