**sniffle** $144 for 3 yards of Capercaillie Modern tartan. Truly the one last kilt I really, really want.

No. I gotta wait. But it's hard. Maybe the pound will drop even lower, right?

    Thanks for the pic FM.

    Please don't lynch the neophyte...

I can't begin to deny the art in a handsewn, but I also don't overtly see a difference in the appearance of this machine sewn. Perhaps its my monitor or the photos. Are the stitches in the fell visible; is it topsewn, or sewn within the pleat?

I have 5 machine sewn 13 or 16 oz tartan 8 yd custom made traditional kilts from three different vendors and they all are virtually identical in constuction and build quality. Stitches are nearly invisible and as perfectly spaced as one might expect from a machine sewn product. I have not complaints about the appearence of any of them. Several of them have been seen by other kilt vendors or adjusted by actual kilt makers (hand sewn) who have commented on the quality of both material and construction. I have no hand sewn kilts as yet so I have nothing to compare to from that standpoint.

I have not sewn in nearly 30 years (other than the occasional button) so I know not the differences between the stitching styles you mention and am therefore no help in that matter. I can tell you that the stitching is essentially invisible, or as much so as is humanly possible, and the appearence impeccable.

In my pictures I probably have the lower strap cinched a bit too tight, giving the body of the kilt a tighter pinched look around my hips than it does when I wear it normally. Otherwise that is the way she looks each time I take her out of the closet to show her off to the world. I wish I had put kilt hose and flashes on for those pics but I took them literally moments after opening the carton and trying her on.

    FM,
You answered my question. I just couldn't tell if the fell stitching was visible.

    Thanks

I couldn't pass up a deal like that. $173 and change for an 8yd 16oz IOS. I put my order in last week and should have it sometime in January. I can't wait. I am also looking at the deals on Locharron Strome 16 0z 8yder in Cameron of Erracht. $226 and change for that bad boy. All of my extra cash from teaching summer school is finally going to be gone... but on such a deal!
