Christmas party got interesting!
Karen and I attended my company's Christmas party this evening. I decided to brave the elements and go kilted. "Brave" because the outside temperature was -25C with a -40C windchill. For some reason the phrase "Brass monkeys" kept running through my head all night.
This was the first time any of my co-workers have seen me kilted. It went over quite well, for the most part. I got a number of positive comments, "aren't you cold?" questions as well as a few "the question" remarks. Everything was handled with humour and everyone had a great time.
The interesting part happened when I got not only my first, but my second kilt check! This was something that's never happened to me before. (See Grant, you still may get your turn! ) The first happened while standing in the dessert lineup. I felt the back of my kilt lift and turned to find a rather attractive woman quickly removing her hand. The only thing I could think of to say was "I hope your hands are warm!". We shared a laugh and had a nice chat while in the lineup.
The second check happened when a rather drunk male co-worker lifted the side of my kilt. He was sitting at a table with his parents and his uncle, and I looked at him and said, quite loudly, "Hey, you told me you liked women, not guys! Is there something you want to tell everyone here?". He turned eighteen shades of red and everyone at the table howled with laughter. I doubt it will ever happen again.
All in all, a pretty decent evening. Here's a quick pic of us from tonight...

WOW! -40C that’s crazy, I think I would hibernate or something, I will never complain about a Kansas winter, except when I am standing in PT (Physical Training) formation at 0545 waiting to salute the flag and sing the Big Red One song.

What is that tartan? That looks really sharp.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

I have found that being kilted in the presence of women makes them get all watery in the knees.
My wife and I were on a Pub Crawl two summers ago, which was hosted by a lady friend of ours from England who owns a small import shop. I was the 'Music Man', and piped everyone off and back on the tour bus.
At about the third stop, and most of the folks in the group were getting fairly well pished, our friend and another lady came right out and asked if they could have a wee feel o' me ****. I. being sober, and knowing my wife was somewhere in the crowd, told them OK, but make it quick.
They did, and made me just a little happier to be able to entertain them.

Welcome....
Welcome Mr. Kilt to Manitoba and the lifting of the plaid.
I smiled at reading your email as I have experienced the cold and getting "inspected" in Winnipeg.
Saskatoon is no better this a.m. as we are -34c with the windchill -45c with a windchill warning!
I remember hearing at the Scottish pavilion that the Scottish regts. changed to trousers in the winters of Manitoba.
Great come backs!
Wonderful photo and thanks for sharing.

Good pic, and very appropriate comebacks to the kiltcheckers.
