This thread is starting to bring back memories of college in the nineties.Having to balance Leon's Silverwing Honda engine on a jack while he drunkenly tride to put the nuts on the bolts to hold it to the frame.

At work, talking to Asif about transcribing math symbols to braille.
I'm not sure where either one of them ended up... I have a feeling Leon probably ended up in jail or a Mac truck radiater. Don't know if Asif went back to Pakistan or became a citizen.

That would be funny if he runs a kilt making factory now.

Crazy stuff... One of my good friends from NM was doing his PhD in something that had to do with developing Braille-based calculus for use in 3-dimensional planar systems or some crazy thing like that. All I know is that this was at NMSU.

Most likely it is Urdu, the main language of Pakistan, which is very similar to Hindi, but written in a script derived from Persian.

Ya, this was at A.S.U. and I was one of the proofreaders for the braille transcriptions. We were doing text books for several colleges; a complete nightmare that involved a lot of computer code.

I did proofread calculus books, not that I could solve any of the problems, but I new the braille code for the math symbols. What's worse is that I am a very slow braille reader. On the other hand, I lasted longer than any other proofreader that had worked there; I had bills to pay!

Most of the staff were from India, and a couple were from Pakistan, China, different places.

Ah, a fine institution of higher learning NMSU! I have two degrees from there and many fine memories; for example one night on the bell tower after several droughts of a minimal Italian red...Oh wait this is a Family forum...Never mind.... Go Aggies!

Yep, grew up in New Mexico. Both my Sister and now my niece attended NMSU. My mother went to Eastern, though. I remember many many hours sitting in the library at Eastern when I was a kid...

I'm glad you got in there before me. I wonder whether a soon-to-be former President was aware of the difference?

Well, never having studied that family of languages, so I really couldn't tell you the difference between Arabic and Urdu by looking at it. The only thing I CAN comment on is that what it looks like -- but if its origins are Persian, that would explain it.
