I'm a Peace Officer in Texas, but not authorized to wear a kilt on duty, although I must say the utility belt looks great with the kilt.

Livingston-
Could you PM me and give me some contact info for your son-in-law (if he's agreeable to it). I live in the Des Moines metro area of which Clive is a suburb. (Grew up in West Des Moines) I'd be very interested in talking to him about kilt considerations.
Thanks,
Tim B.

Strewth! Is that the Harley equivalent of a recumbent bicycle?!

Welcome Brother! Glad to see another kilted officer.
I'll tell you I've worked bikes for a few years and as much as I like kilts, there is NO WAY I would wear one on regular patrol, let alone BIKE patrol. It will screw up your dismounts, takedowns and catch on any number of things - not to mention the hygene issue. Without getting too graphic, the horn of your bike seat will give new meaning to the term "pleat depth."
Now our department doesn't authorizee it, but I could see the kilt as a possible option for full dress uniform details...

All this reminds me of when I lived in Australia a few years ago.
I was playing in a Celtic Ceilidh band in Brisbane and we used to play
at a city centre venue every St Patricks Day.
One year we'd just finished playing a set and headed out to the main street to watch the main parade.
This was headed by the City of Brisbane Police Pipe Band, resplendent in police shirts and aviators and of course their kilts.
As they skirled by, I heard a slightly squiffy Australian girl scream out in delight, ''Aw Jeeeez...! That's what I want.... A man in a uniform AND a skirt!!!
Must've lost 10LBs from laughing so hard!

I work in the Canadian Military. Our Friday casual policy will allow a kilt with the contribution to the United Way for a value of $100.00
If the chief will let you wear it for charity support, and he has the common sense to know your supporting community relations, why not. With the right style and class to be appropriate dressed, the Kilt says what many won't.

Proudly Canadian, definitely proud to be Celtic, and always a Canadian soldier.

I'm at a toss-up between the Navy Edzell and the LE tartan??? I was just gonna get the Edzell, but now I need to do a comparison (I only want one blue for my collection).
