Thanks for sharing photos! Someday I will get down there... been meaning to, but you know how it sometimes is (economy and all that *sighs*). Not to mention, I look forward to getting back to sewing again, too!

Nice photos. The three of you look great. It's good to see the area is starting to recover.

Sorry guys, one more....
A friend took this at Dickens, too funny not to share;
Queen Victoria was not the only royalty at Dickens on the Strand, The King was taking care of business down there too!

YOU look GREAT! Easily, the best kiltie there. A gentle Irishman, might odd for sure...ok, maybe not the mighty "odd part", but you know.

You know, I was on my best behaviour at Dickens this year, I even made an effort to color coordinate outfits with my wife. I think because of this being the first public event in Galveston since hurricane Ike there was a general feeling among those of us who are just paying customers, but do dress for it, to be aware that we are part of the 'local color' to the other patrons (or mundanes, as we call them in the ren faire world) and we tried to put our best foot forward as it were. Before the streets got more crowded, we were stopped to have our picture taken quite a bit, and we did our best to be friendly and help visitors get into the spirit of the day.

As Dickens is a Victorian era event, as a proud Irishman I normally portray an Celtic Revival Irish Nationalist (or unrepentant Feinian as my wife calls it) of the era and would wear my more period correct saffron kilt instead of the Ireland's National, with an attitude to match. I have been known to upon seeing the Queen, who is portrayed by a very nice, very knowegable lady, shout at her about her goverment's policies during the famine clearances, church reform etc.. I never know if she finds that funny or annoying. But this year I gave her a polite Christmas greeting, even removing my hat, to which she replied, "Thank you young man, this year we will let you live"
