With makes no difference, without would be rather strange I think to wear a fedora.
When I was in the Army we wore our dress hats with the X-uniform, which was very much like the PC. I was wondering if there was a civilian equal or equivalent.
Damn there goes my collection of aluminum foil pirates hats!
Brooster, when in Rome.... I have no idea what would be customary in New Mexico, but today no hat of any sort is worn with a PC in Scotland -- inside, outside or in my lady's chamber.

Quite right for Scotland. Now, if, if I were in the type of weather that is had in, say, North American winters, I think I would wear a balmoral out of doors.

Ah, but that's not a prince charlie jacket. It's an Argyle and is being worn less formally, so the fashion is more relaxed.
Now, whether you like the look or not is a whole different debate.

Well said. Unfortunately, many people in this country wear a hat indoors and think nothing of it.

Yes, it is sad, but the new NASCAR culture that is challenging good manners of all sorts has set a new social norm of hats indoors in the US. US Army wear of hats in formal attire was optional, mostly due to the proper protocal of formal attire, However, if you need to wear a hat with your PC, the balmoral would be the choice.

No hat whatsoever at any stage. as far salmond the pic is when he was in america pushing "tartan day" some might suggest that the hat is entirely appropriate for him.
