Making my way back - with new pipes

Hello to all the rablle. I am making my way back slowly from a pretty serious health issue I've been dealing with, but it's coming along slowly but surely.

The big news though is that I just found out some dear friends at work have purchased a MaCallum canter and pipes from me from Scotwebstore. Now not knowing anyhting about this piping business, but certainly having a willingness to give anything a try, I'm pretty excited. However I know nothing about the McCallum pipes and was wopndering if someone could give me a review of the quaility of the product.

I do know, from what has been shared on this wonderful forum, that I must find a good teacher or pipe band to work with for a good while. That should be no problem here in Richmond, so the journey will start soon.

Thanks for any help. Good Cheer to All for the wonderful Holiday Season!!

I'm glad to hear your recovery is coming along. Slow and sure is good! You have really good friends, too.
I have a set of McCallums; they were recommended to me by my instructor/pipe major, and I'm really happy with them.
You've probably already read the sticky on learning the bagpipes, and you're right about getting an instructor.
Good luck with your recovery and piping journey!

Glad to hear you are on the mend. What a generous gift. I understand they are the best! Good luck in getting the right teacher. Keep us posted on your progress on both accounts.

Congratulations on the recovery and the generous gift. The McCallum Long Practice Chanter, and the Dunbar Long Practice Chanter are the ones recommended by my instructor. My classes start in January (Spring semester). I am jonesing big time.
The instructor/tutor, and the Practice Chanter are the most important step in learning the Great Highland Bagpipes. Start with a tutor, it will save a lot of time unlearning the wrongs.
