Incidents at the restaurant

Although there has been one post by me that probably came across as sounding like I am okay with kilt checks, I'm actually not (unless it's my hubby and in the privacy of our own home ). I'm never going to kilt check anyone else -- hubby sure wouldn't appreciate that -- and I'd appreciate it if a stranger doesn't do that to him... and even if they ask for permission, they'll get a NO from us both.

I'm actually not too fond of that type of behavior, and I'm thankful my hubby isn't either. There has been one time we let two very good friends kilt check him, but that was it.

As I've said before, if a stranger does anything like that to my husband, they'll be hearing it from both of us about how they shouldn't be doing that. After all, if it were to happen to me... well... that wouldn't go over very well.

However, I think that somehow we've gotten used to the notion that rudeness coming from a woman is somehow more tolerable than rudeness coming from a man.

I also think it's partially because of the myth surrounding the kilt and that many people think it's okay to ask or find out for themselves. The only man I'm concerned with is my own husband. I honestly could care less what is under another man's kilt. Even if I were single and the man is attractive to me -- I'd be more interested in getting to know him. His wearing a kilt would just be a plus in the "similar interests/hobbies/etc" department and looking handsome as far as garments go (and even I have personal tastes when it comes to kilts and accessories... I tend to prefer traditional kilts to contemporary ones, but that's not the point).

But yes, you're right that a lot of times some people give women more slack for some reason when it comes to something like this.

I generally reply that my mum said a lady would never ask. Mum was right!!!!! See if she gets the hint. Most of the time the lass has been put up to it by her mates. That said this one obviously wasn't as she got down for a peek. Being in the wintery north it's less likely to happen too much snow and muck.
She deffinately isn't one you would take home to meet mum.

I think the opposite is almost true. I expect obedience from my oldest (can't expect much from the 6 month old yet) I know kids can be kids, and I often get apologies for when another's toddler bumbles over towards me, but I have kids and am used to that. But a few days ago, my son stopped in the middle of the exit to walmart as I moved to the side to get the car seat off of the cart, and he was blocking traffic, so to speak. I told, then yelled at him to move out of the way, which he ignored. The first person stuck behind him said it was alright, and this was an older person. I pulled him over by his arm (coat really) and as the people walked past I told him that next time I would make sure he apologized to every person that was stuck behind him because he didn't want to do as he was told.

Well, I said it in Mr. Kilt's recent thread, but I think it's worth repeating. In general, parents today are no longer in the habit of raising polite children. Manners are not taught and people who behave in a boorish manner abound, regardless of gender. However, I think that somehow we've gotten used to the notion that rudeness coming from a woman is somehow more tolerable than rudeness coming from a man.

Therefore, in this case, had it been a man, he probably would have had his daylights beat out of him by said kilt-wearer, whereas the women weren't even told how inappropriate they were.

I would really encourage people to educate people like this when they're behaving in an impolite way. Especially women -- since they probably have never been told otherwise!

I'm just wondering if drinking played a role in this. Having worked at a bar/restaurant a few years , and watching the people, much worse often happened as the nights progressed.

No both young females were not drunk. The second one was an avid smoker because I could smell her tobacco breath.

You have to keep your calm in such situations. Over reacting would have worsened the situation.

I just wondered because it happened twice...
I've never had anyone try to kilt check me that I can recall; I was asked by someone I know one time, though.
