It'll turn up. I was working on a fountain once and lost a bag of wire nuts. I had drive 20 miles one way to the nearest hardware store to get more. I found the ones I'd lost that evening when I got home. They were in my jacket pocket.

I lost a cell phone once that way. My nephew had the idea to call my numer to help me find it. Problem was - it seemed like every where I looked I could hear the phone, just couldn't find it!

Brian Froud would say the fae are having fun with you and they may in cahoots with the cat. If you stop looking they will put it back or fairly close to where it was.

If it makes you feel any better, sometimes losing stuff can have a payoff much farther in the future... Like when you put on a coat you haven't worn for a few years and find a $20 note in one of the pockets. :-)

It could have been much worse. So long as sister-in-law is still on speaking terms with her boyfriend you can still give him the sgian once it turns up. Obviously it can't have gone far. Let us know when you find it.
