    Subtle Kilt Compliment

A coworker invited me to Christmas dinner with her family - provided I go kilted. Her 73yo father likes kilts and his 86yo mother-in-law is of Scottish ancestry and has not seen a man in a kilt in years.

So, today I wear my Royal Air Force tartan kilt with an off white cableknit sweater and light blue kilt hose.

Old pic, but same turnout save blue kilt hose.

When I arrive the MIL does an open mouthed double take and smile then starts talking about her Scottish ancestry. All is well. Good times, good fellowship, good meal, fire in the fireplace, kids ripping open presents. Just a fine afternoon.

I'm wandering about after dinner and notice a six inch thick dictionary open on a stand made to hold it open. Of course the page is open to the definition of kilt and theres a sketch of a kilted Scotsman in full turnout.

I thought that was a nice jesture and sort of an antidote for some of the "don't wear your kilt" stories that come across the board.

When it was time to go home my "take it with you stuff" was presented to me one of those gift shopping bags done up in tartans.

Nice to be welcomed in such a supportive manner.

What a great afternoon! Everyone's entitled to one of these every now and again.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

    Love the picture

Love the picture, especially the background, white snow on red rock is always impressive. Love the color of the kilt and I am quite sure you were warm with that sweater.
Aye, spent Christmas Eve and Day kilted. Black Watch SWK last night and McDonald Sportkilt today. Played games and had dinner and opened presents with the family, even went to the store to get some last minute items.
Everyone seemed to be comfort with me and the way I was dressed. Received from my wife a leather vest, goes great with my scottish outfits. This is a good sign (2 years ago I thought my wife was going to send me packing when I appeared for Christmas dinner in a UK).
