dimensions of a fly
What measurements should I use to make a fly to wear with the Prince Charlie Jacket and formal kilt for a wedding (father of the groom and the groom?) The kilts are 9 yards of 16oz wool

a Grant,
Both my plaids are made from a single piece of 16 oz cloth that measures approximately 51-52"" square. These dimensions include about a 1" fringe on all sides.
I understand some plaids can be made from 2 pieces of cloth, but can be more challenging to make when trying to hide the seam.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Good point about the jacket weight.

Update,
Using 2-1 lb lead plates (3" X 6" X 1/16") in each jacket pocket seems to have stabilized the jacket with the plaid attached - no more backward pull, and a balanced feel left and right.
This may have also been suggested, but if you're looking for a sleeve for your broach pin (to either keep it from pricking you, someone admiring the broach, or the fabric), try a piece of clear wire insulation over the pin tip. My source for this is clear-coated speaker wire - typically a #14-#16 AWG.
Mike
