The reverse Kingussie is the style I have settled on for my own kilts and I make them an exact mirror image right and left sides, with the exception of a belt loop on the outer edge of the apron.

I am wearing my almost 8 yards of black peached cotton - with the peaching inside, and with all the work at Christmas I did not starch it - and it shows. A light spray of starch on the inside only as it will show white when it dries, and then ironing along the lower edge on the inside to flatten as much as possible before starting to press the pleats does help to reduce the amount of work required to make the pleats look good. Heavy starching is too much, it stiffens the fabric and removes the movement.

I use the cardboard inner of a bolt of fabric to lay the pleats on for individual pressing under a damp cloth. Even with a steam iron the cloth makes a difference to the final look, and it stops the fabric getting polished by the iron which makes it look older quickly.

Congrats on your black denim kilt. Alan did a great job in making it, and as he said, it's pretty much bulletproof. A few wrinkles hear and there - not to worry. It's the nature of cotton. I have 6 Amerikilts that I wear during the hot summer months. They all wrinkle because they're cotton Just sweep the pleats when you sit and it will minimize wrinkles. Enjoy.
