I usually wear my sporran a hand width below the buckle, or with a waistcoat, probablly about the same place. I almost always wear a sporran when wearing the kilt.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I love a nice sporran with the kilt. I tend to wear my sporran a little lower than others. For some reason it just feels better when walking and sitting.

But I would never let my sporran be longer than my kilt, like the guy to the right in the picture. That would be a bit too far down for me.

The one on the right appears to be an officer (I'm thinking Drum Major), and so would be entitled to a longer sporran. I agree, though, that it should end above the selvedge of the kilt.

A Warrant Officer, not commissioned. Not a Drum/pipe Major, wrong rank badges for that, so probably a CSM. I think that's the old Queen's Barracks in Perth. The Pipers and the Sergeant Majors sporrans are different. As far the the Sergeant Majors sporran is concerned, wearing it today, I would expect the bottom of the sporran to be in line with the bottom of the kilt

Definately higher than they are. It depends on what I'm wearing. Low enough so that it doesn't get in the way when sitting and doesn't rub on the belt.
