I always thought that was the prime purpose of the sporran, the the ability to hold oddments was secondary.

Personally, I think protecting my dignity is secondary. I have very little of that. And I have a lot of stuff to hold...

I often go without sporrans and find no problem with the kilt apron and underapron falling into place or being placed with a push of the hand. When I do wear a sporran it sits atop my legs when I sit and is of no assistance in pushing down the aprons. Actually gets in the way of pushing them down if need be.
What I'm really liking is the brown battlejacket on the left. Different than the cut away military kilt jacket that What Price Glory sells. Like that brown battlejacket look with a kilt.

I noticed after reading this that I wear mine rather high actually. Really comfy only an inch or two below my belt.

I was glad to read a little futher into this thread that the horse hair sporran falling bellow the kilt line was acceptable. Some ealier threads seam to be aginst this. I have two horse hair sporrans, one falls above and one bellow. I've seen many historical pictures, both miltary and civillian, that show the sporran falling bellow the kilt line. Personally, I like the look either way.

Ron,
Have you seen Tunes of Glory? The battledress jacket is worn throughout the movie with the kilt.

A warrant officer and a pace stick under his left arm, so probably a CSM. That means that he is wearing all of his uniform including the sporran exactly as it should have been at the time, and he served during hard times---respect---respect.

I wasn't thinking of dignity, but something far more likely to be damaging!

What is a NAAFI? As a 17+ year squid and the Navy equivalent of a CSM for a purple unit I know a lot of military speak but that is a new one to me.
As someone said above that CSM has been around the block a few times and so however he chooses to wear the uniform, be it by regulation or not, is the Correct way .
