How do you tell a bad bagpiper to stop playing?

It depends.
1.) If he is surronded by people with torches and pitch forks, pick up a stick and join in, if you must.
2.) If he is surrounded by people enjoying themselves, consider yourself an effete snob and move on.
3.) If he is all alone (most likely if he is bad enough to warrant any action on your part) offer some useful pointer to improve him.

Well, actually.....

As a dancer, we're always delighted to have an actual piper at a competition. There are quite a few pipers that we've gotten to know and look forward to as we know that they are total professionals and will discuss the tempos with the judge ahead of time and we know we can trust them. However, there is one piper that we dread, yet we cannot avoid. We would dearly, dearly love not to have to listen or dance to that piper, but alas, 'tis not done.

As written previously, putting distance between you is the best remedy.

I live in Memphis - you wanna take a guess how many sub-standard blues wannabe- musicians come here? And I won't even bother comtemplating the number of Elvis impersonators. I could spend my entire weekends telling everyone how offensive they sound.

Also, could spend a lotta time sitting in an oral surgeon's chair getting things back into place because of my efforts.

As a piper I have heard many a folk say that they did not like the pipes. I have found that most of them have never heard a good piper and I have changed most of there opinons if they gave me the chance. However, the bad pipers are out there.
