    Folk metal

I'm running through a laundry list of downloads from my son and would like some help. I'm shooting with a shotgun and I'd rather use a laser.

I enjoy Flogging Molly, and I like a lot of what I hear from Dropkick Murphys. I also like Great Big Sea, Gaelic Storm, some Cruchan. Alestorm is about as "growly" as I can take my metal, at my ripe old age. The thing about Alestorm is, about every third song sounds like Stonehenge by Spinal Tap.

I was hoping some of you folks could point me in the direction of folk metal or Celtic music that is more along the lines of Flogging Molly -- party music -- rather than stuff like Branded Brood and Eluveitie (they're a little too agitated for my good).

    Thanks in advance!
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

Wait, do you want folk metal or punk? Flogging Molly is definitely not metal. Some good resources for "Paddy Rock" are ***** n Onions and Paddy Rock.com. Also, I hope you didn't forget The Pogues -- they started the whole thing!

Are we looking for Celtic metal or folk metal or punk? If you want some killer folk metal, Blind Guardian and Nightwish are my favorites.

    Check out these two songs:

Valhalla- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ_VFJn2kJM This is about as heavy as BG get

The Bards Song- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zklqr...eature=related Good and mellow, and really sums these guys up- they're bards; musical storytellers.

If you like Flogging MOlly, def. give The Tossers a try. You'll be glad you did!! They put on a great live show as well, I say them when they opened for Reverand Horton Heat (also a great show)!

A little mellower but along the same lines, check out Off Kilter. They're permanent gig as at Epcot Center, but they travel some and have quite a few CDs out. I saw them at a Festival in Estes Park a few years back, good show.

    Hello,
Here is a brief list of some stuff I listen to ranging from gaelic punk to a wee bit folkier: we'll start with one of my faves The Real McKenzies, Flogging Molly, Oi Polloi (many songs sung in Gaelic), Mill a h-Uile Rud (all songs sung in Gaelic), Flatfoot 56, Sedition, Exploited (Scottish punk), Rezillos, Na Gatham, The Pogues, The Clancy Brothers, The Tossers, Blood or Whiskey, The Dubliners, The Young Dubliners, The Men They Couldn't Hang, The Hollow Points, Levellers, Runrig, Amadan, Black 47, The Mahones, The Skels, Shane MacGowan and the Popes, Street Dogs, The Skids, I could go on but I've got to finish up some work and then get ready to celebrate my oldest son's birthday. Besides their is enough here to keep you busy in the mean time. I'll post some more in the future for you. Granted you may not like all but check 'em out and see what you like. I'm sure you'll find a few gems in the lot. Enjoy what you like, forget about what you don't !
