I think it could look good, but would depend on the trousers.
Maybe you should post a picture?

Contrary to the views of others here I think it can look very good. Except for a Magilla Gorilla aesthetic one will need to be tall and slim. The fitted look of an Argyll jacket can pair well to casual but highly fitted (stretch) pants. A tight skinny or a boot cut (with boots) could look quite trendy. Black barathea and denim could work. Tweeds are great but demand somewhat "heavier" pants to look balanced. One can also use a standard length waistcoat to balance the gap between the open front. There should be some contrast--- colour and material--- between the jacket and the waistcoat.
I don't think it could be pulled off with so-called "dress slacks" as with more conventional pants one would need, following conventional expectations, a longer (and a more, as the pants, loosing fitting) jacket. Its about balance and planned imbalance. One will have to experiment as there are no cookie sheets.

I would avoid wearing it with a tin foil hat, as well.
