Ron, we do have members of this forum who live in countries who were actually occupied by the Nazis. I'm not opposed to discussing them, but rather making light (i.e. the term "kilt nazi") of that terrible time in world history when people were occupied by them. The word "nazi" is so evil may we never forget its true and sinister meaning.

We in America, which did not know the sting of occupation, tend to forget this at times.

    Respectfully,

    Todd

Just how squeamish can you get?

Should minors not be encouraged to wear kilts?

Should they not be allowed to avail themselves of the advice, opinions and experience of older members of the forum.

As far as I know, even American boys are born with the usual anatomy, just as in pother parts of the world. Or do these bits appear suddenly when they reach voting age?

It is quite possible that my grandparents grew up fairly innocent of sexuality, but in our world of commerce and television, I find it hard to imagine that today's youngsters remain ignorant of their own bodies.

So why do we see :
"Since ... question has been answered, and ... to prevent a thread already on the edge of our family friendly guidelines from plunging into the realms of the completely inappropriate the Moderators have decided to close this thread."

I am not expecting an answer to my question; just felt like expressing annoyance at censorship and the way things can be decided so undemocratically.

Thank you Martin. I thought it was a bit overzealous of the mods to close down my thread. sorry, but I was asking a real world question, was using appropriate euphamisms for anatomy, it was not even CLOSE to being inappropriate, and noone was venturing close to crossing any lines. Period. In fact, everyone was being quite helpful and respectful. Give me a break. There wasn't even ONE off-color joke or comment. Not one.

I'm glad the mods are here, they do a great job of maintaining order, but sometimes I think it's overdone. just my opinion.

I did see the thread. Since it was a problem I too have had, I was very interested in the question and the answers. I learned a lot from the thread. I'm glad I caught it before it went away.

As to this threads question, If your going to a have a family friendly formate, then there must be a line draw as to what can be posted or not. Since human beings are evaluating where the line is, it will wiggle at times. Did the thread in question cross the line? Not if I where drawing the line, but I'm NOT a moderator! Not my line to draw. If he saw a need to stop things before it degenerated, (and I could see that happening,) then so be it. I only wish it would have been left up to the point it had reach. It was a valid question with good answers.

I do like the attention that the Mods give to this forum and some times it is a little edgy but everyone is suppose to know the rules and stick by them as close as they can. Some people like to push boundaries way to far and if it gets to far away from kilting, it needs to be addressed.

    MrBill

PS I just read the thread about sitting in a kilt. It was real good info. Could see it going south but it didn't and the info I could really use.

Yup, do know them folks. Dad flew for the RAF was at Dieppe and Kassarine. Uncle Don marched across France and Germany and was with the first company in to Dachau.
Uncle Larry hunted U Boats in a PBY.

Just guessed - wrongly it turns out - that if a background t-shirt wasn't okay....

    Folks, this is why I ain't a mod....I just don't get it.

    Carry on.

Martin, I think the problem it is a cultural one. In the USA children are rigorously shielded from all things sexual, in Europe we are much more relaxed about things like that. The moderators have the very difficult task of making sure that nobody on this multi-national forum, feels upset, embarrassed or insulted no matter what their cultural background.

On this forum they give us the right not to be embarrassed or insulted, not the right to say what we like regardless of other peoples feelings, that is what makes it such a great forum.

    Ron,

My grandfather fought against fascism as well in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He was at the air field where the survivours of the Bataan Death March were brought after being liberated from camps in Manchuria. My point was, though, that his hometown (thankfully) was never occupied by the Nazis or the Japanese. You'll get no arguement from me about the bravery of the allied forces, including many Commonwealth Scottish regiments, who fought against fascism during the Second World War.

However, in reference to the picture you mentioned -- why would anyone want to wear a t-shirt based on the flag of the Third Reich? Personally, I find that sort of thing insulting to the memory of brave men like your father, uncles and my grandfather. That t-shirt is not the same as a discussion of WWII history and the role of the Scottish regiments. I'm sorry that offended you, but that's how I see it. The forum rules specifically prohibit hate speech & groups and their symbols.

    Respectfully,

    Todd

Spot on in your explanation, Peter. As a former Mod I can attest to your point that the job is at times a thankless one, as someone is never happy about your actions.
