BB,
Welcome back I knew where you were and was hoping that you made it through your Navy basic training. I am sure it was very cold up at the Great Lakes training facility.
I wore your custom sporran last weekend and a few people commented on how nice it looked.
Enjoy your R&R.

Wow that was a lot of responses in a day! Thanks for the kind words from everyone. Todd, give my regards to everyone at the Burn's supper, I wish I could make it. As far as whats next, I am going to be an MM, assuming all goes well in with school. Great Lakes was very cold and snowy the entire duration of my stay at RTC resort and spa! I am loving Charleston so far, and any advice on things to see (besides patriots point and the hunley. . . already on my list) would be appreciated. I know it gets hot and humid in the summer, but I am still very happy to be here. Unfortunately I am not yet authorized to wear civilian clothes so I wont be able to wear a kilt for awhile. I will keep you all posted and hopefully I will get some pics here soon.
Regards

If you should go to Ft. Sumter, ask if "Ranger Rick" is working, and tell him you know Todd W., one of Piston's wayward students & a seasonal at WICR.

Ft. Sumter is definitely high on the list. Ft. Moultrie on Sullivan's Island is another good one. Also, just walking around downtown Charleston can be fun. I just gave a friend of mine a condensed walking tour the other day. I usually park in the Gailliard Auditorium garage, which is on Calhoun between E. Bay and Meeting St., then start walking from there. If you cross E. Bay while on Calhoun (travelling towards the harbor) you'll come to the Aquarium/Ft. Sumter memorial-thing. There's a military museum there which you might find interesting. From there if you wind your way down the waterfront toward the marina right there, you can see the Spirit of South Carolina tall ship.
If you go the other way on Calhoun, I like to take a left onto King and follow that down to White Point Gardens. From there, you can walk back up the waterfront and see Rainbow Row, Waterfront Park, etc. For Brevity's sake I'll leave it at that, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I've lived here most of my life, and my father grew up here, so between the two of us we should have it covered.

A Cunningham in the Navy, theres a first...
;)
From an ex matelot to a new one, have fun, its a great life and experience.
The easy bit is over, and joining ships company (Or what ever you yanks call it, thats what we called it in the Royal Navy services) and learning and performing at their level is the hard part...(but not that hard...)
I might of missed it, but what branch of the senior service did you sign into?
(I was going to say her majesty's, but that doesnt apply to the US)
All the best
