Best place to buy diced kilt hose.
Hello everyone,
I'm in search of a reputable supplier of diced kilt hose, specifically green and red, that will not kill me financially and isn't utter crrrrrap. I know J.Higgins sells them for $60, but how are they ? Anyone out there have any experience with them ? Anyone have any other suggestions ? I'm even willing to go the used route provided they are not on their last leg . Thanks in advance. And yes, I did do a search ,but I'm looking for current info. Again, Thank you.
Yours Aye,
Sean

I would not recommend the merchant you mention, unless you plan on wearing them only once every five years or so, and then only at night to places that are dimly lit.

I'd say talk to Matt at the Scottish Tartan Museum, I'm not sure but I think he gets them from the Hawick Hose Company. I have a pair from Hawick that I am very pleased with.

Thanks for the info Gilmore. I definately would wear them quite a bit. I'm a Clan Rep. so I do many functions throughout the year. It seemed like a great price but questionable as to the quality. Thanks for the insight. Do you have any recommendations for a merchant of decent quality and price ?

Hello McMurdo. Thanks for the tip, I've always admired what you have shared on this board. I was actually thinking of looking into what Matt has to offer at STM. I do believe you are right has to the manufacture of the hose. Thanks again. Would you happen to know of any others as well ? I always like to know of reputable establishments. I do know Matt and The Scottish Tartan Museum is top notch though .

would custom-made by one of our knitters be an option?

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Hello Piperdbh,
Yes, absolutely! I would love for that to be an option. Do you know of a knitter that would be willing to make me a pair and if so how's the pricing ?

I bought a made to measure pair of diced hose from The Tartan Thistle, 100% wool, that are sturdy and comfortable. Their customer service was friendly and excellent. The pair ran me a little more than $100. http://www.tartanthistle.com/Argyll_...tan_socks.html

Hello Ruanaidh,
Thank you so much for posting the link. I just got back from checking out their site. Unfortunately they didn't offer much info regarding the diced hose other than price, which is at a respectable $119.00. Luckily you posted a fantastic picture of the hose you got from them. They indeed look wonderful. Would you happen to know from your prior experience with them if they offer them in the red and green I'm looking for ? At the suggestion of McMurdo, earlier today I checked out the Scottish Tartans Museum Shop and it seems that they only offer the diced hose in red / black and red / white. I also love the look of tartan hose , but for me personally I prefer the diced other than of course coloured hose of which I have a few pairs (no white / creme in the lot nor will their ever be ). Thank you all thus far for the information given. I truly appreciate it. This is a fantastic site filled with wonderful people. I'm so happy I signed on. I look forward to receiving more information and suggestions in the future. Thanks again !

You could try this company

I don't have any experience with them but I've seen photos of their hose, and they look good.
