Welcome to the rabble, Bart.
See this thread for the free download of Barb and Matt's instructions for box-pleating. It is a companion to Barb's book.

If you haven't considered making a box-pleat, I'd like to encourage you to do so. They are really splendid garments. See Matt's articles if you are unfamiliar with this style.

Barbs book came in today and I dove into the first 4 chapters.... and to my horror the whole kilt is "hand sewn"?
Egad... I thought I could crank this sucker out on a machine.
I'm bummed.

I'd think that you could use a machine to make at least part of it...but I really don't know all the much about kilt making...

Oh, Bart, don't be bummed. You have the best set of instructions for making kilt there is. You can use it for figuring out proportions and all the details on over all construction. I bet you're pretty smart and will figure out where you can convert steps to the machine. Our man Rocky of USA kilts makes his on a machine and some say you can't tell the difference! Post questions in the DIY forum if you get stuck.
Regards,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.
