A REPRODUCTION kilt protective apron in khaki sold for £72 on ebay. I'm not even convinced that they really were ever issued. The www.whatpriceglory.com Canadian WW1 version ($18) only covered the front. Soldiers complained about the problems of their military kilts getting waterlogged etc without having a load of canvas to cart around as well.

£72! Heck, that's the cost of a kilt!

Yes, they most certainly were issued, in both the South African (Boer) War and WWI. I have even seen a picture of a Commando wearing one over his kilt on the St. Nazaire Raid in 1942.
