Christmas Sgian Dubh
My wife's been using the camera alot lately due to her sister having a baby...so that makes us a first time Aunt & Uncle. Anyhow, now that I got it back I thought I'd show some Christmas photos finally. I asked for a Sgian Dubh for Christmas, so I kindly directed my father to the Scottish Tartan Museum where he bought me "The Tay" made by "The Sgian Dubh Co." I wanted a sgian that was a little different. I LOVE IT! Nice and heavy, good quality, as I expected the blade was a dull as a butter knife. My friend has a cousin that works at Dick's Sporting Goods, he sharpened it up nicely for me for free.
It was a Buchanan Christmas at the Schenk household on Christmas Eve. Here's a photo of my Uncle (on the left) his first time wearing a kilt, it's a Frugal Corner 16 oz., I had one that was WAY too big for me and gave it to him. My brother is in the middle wearing a Frugal Corner 13 oz. was originally my first kilt, I never liked it and gave it to him, he doesn't really have any accessories. And I'm wearing my Frugal Corner 16 oz. I don't wear this kilt all that often, I much prefer my 2 USA Kilts over this one.
My uncle found me a "Fat Bastard" doll from the Austin Powers movie (that's what I'm holding in this photo)
And on Christmas morning with my mother I was going casual and wore my St. Patricks tartan kilt.
Later Christmas day we got together with my inlaws and family in which I wore my USA Kilt American Heritage. Just don't have any photos on my camera...
And here's UNCLE STEVE (me) holding my 1 hour old Niece Sophie!

I got the same one for Christmas! Love that sgian! How did the blade sharpening turn out? I haven't had mine sharpened yet, but was planning on it.
The rest of the pictures turned out great as well.

It turned out fantastic, he did a great job putting a nice finished edge on it. He kept it overnight and gave it back the next day. Since it was a completely unfinished edge he didn't want to heat the blade up too much, so he took his time. Very Sharp, LOVE IT

Nice photos, Steve. Great to see everyone get into the act. By the way, I noticed that the Celtic Corner store had tons of baby kilts on the rack...
I like the Sgian Dubh - I don't own one myself, but that's the first one I've seen that I might consider. So, I was wondering just the other day whether it's customary to have them sharpened, or do most people leave them in the letter opener state?
See you at Nicholsons?
Regards,
Rex.

I don't know about most, but I know these sgians come unsharpened, from what I understand it's due to the blade laws in scotland. (Matt, correct me if I'm wrong)
I'd prefer it to be sharp, just in case I should need it for something.

Is he wearing it inside out or did they make it that way?
