    A trip to the Goose

Early Sat morning we set of to visit the Goose & Cuckoo .. its a very remote pub, as pubs go, and hard to find if you dont know where it is .... having said that, each year its in the UK Good Beer Guide.. The weather was misty and it could have rained, so I decided to leave my new walking coat behind cause its not waterproof. The women were already into a good natter seconds after we met up.
    An early start

We were soon at the central bus station and on the next bus and away

We passed a few nice Holsteries en route

Just over an hour later we got off on the main road

Within a few minutes we were in the silence of the country lanes. We had about an hour and a half walk in front uf us to get to the goose

As we were approaching the little canal bridge

The canal was frozen ... the little houseboat had a good chimney going .. I bet they were lovely and warm and snug in there

Took a pic on the bridge, but this is how it came out ... since it had at least my cilt in it, (and the mrs, cause she's short), I have posted it

    A little property en route

I just loved this old barn ... would make a fab recording studio. Its in a fab setting .. great for those of us who write and record our own material ...

Then we spotted a new sign in the hedge

The hedge had grown well over the old one

Then as if by magic the goose weathercock appeared over the hedgerow and the smoke was pouring out the chimney of the pub fire

We had arrived slighty early and they werent due to open for another 15mins .. the road only continues for another couple of hundred yards and its the end of this particular valley

The beer garden and pub outlook is stunning .. unfortunately it all misty today. They have ducks, rabbits, pigs and sheep as pets and they roam arround the beer garden in the summer ... they are very friendly and the children love it

When we got in we had a warm up

And settled down to a pint of 'Cribyn' 4.5% ... named after a mountain in the Brecon Beacons

We were snug inside whilst it just went colder outside

There is a window at the back of the bar

The view on a fine day is brill

Then it was time to get back out in the cold and make our way back

On our way back down the lanes and tracks, these fellas greeted us through a hedge ... they were with a farmer who was repairing a fence post in a field

When we arrived back home we headed straight for a wetherspoons and had another warm up

    Thats it

Looks like a great outing. I've never walked an hour and a half for a pint, but for that place I think I could be persuaded. THe walk is half the fun anyway! Actually, the terrain reminded me of a misty day where I grew up in SW Washington state.
