ROKS sounds good to me also. Then Aye it is? What have you fellow ROKS decided as to a Burns Supper? When and where. With enough notice I may be able to make it to the front range for the dinner (weather permitting and the passes are open). Please let me know

    Nulty,

We're trying to do it on the cheap this year so meeting at one of the pubs.

I searched for Pubs doing suppers and none of the suspects were advertising that they were doing one. I tried Scottish and found a new Scottish Pub in Boulder so I emailed them to see if they were doing a supper and they are: also $50 for four courses, drinks etc.

That being said; the rabble seems to prefer a lower key event and since someone posted a thread with this link: http://www.burnssupper2009.com/default.aspx which offers a "do it yourself kit" including the requisite liturgy ith:. So I propose [take two]......

Location: Pint Pub [live ales and 1 or 2 Whiskys ]
    Date: 24 Jan.
Time: 6 pm an early start for an early finish [Murphys law dictates that I am working that weekend ]
Attire: Kilts as dressed up as you can do

If we get 6 or 7 people firmly committed I will get the "Do it Yourself Burns Supper" kit and try and find a Haggis.

$50 is actually fairly reasonable when you consider all that goes into a Burns Supper; Haggis, the venue, decorations, entertainment, etc. Our local St. Andrew's Society charges $40 per person, whilst a Burns Supper in a major city like St. Louis or Chicago can go anywhere from $70 to $100 per person.

That's not to say that a Burns Supper cannot be held for less cost, but as the organiser of a Burns Supper for over a decade, I feel that some explanation is owed when people question the costs.

Don;t get me wrong, man- I'm ot saying it's not reasonable- I know how much these kinds of events can run an organizer- I'm just saying that I can't afford it right now... Which is why I didn't get to see Flogging Molley when they were here.

Shoot, I just had a new head gasket put in my car along with a change to the timing belt. So I'm out 2k and that means tight pockets until after my wedding in April. I'll have to pass on this meetup, sorry guys.

$50 per capita is the only published price I've found in the Washinton-Baltimore area. I don't find it attractive right after the Holidays, but I do think it reasonable. .

    Unhappy

Chances are now very slim that we will be able to make it up for this. We were both looking forward to seeing everyone again and to a visit to Pints Pub. With being a recipeint of a WFR notice today, we're squeezing every penny we can until either Joyce, myself or both of us find jobs.
