Our local Burns Night is on Jan 31st. And we are very excited as our town is actually named after Burns himself. Our local sporteams are the Burns Hilanders (yes..I know they spell it wrong and have done so for years) and the Scotties. Our group has been trying to reestablish the Scottish aspects of our town for a few years with Highland games and Burns nights and Scottish Appreciation Day.
Anyway, with the local (not to mention national ) economy spiraling, we are looking at ways to keep interest and make the events affordable. So we had one of our final meetings to pull it all together last Friday. We are having a great all you can eat traditional roast beef dinner with neeps and tatties and the rest for $15 a person..down $5 from last year. Entertainers are coming from Central Oregon and it promises to be great.
So as everyoen is saying "job well done" I ask about the haggis.
Haggis? Haggis?? UH....who was supposed to order the haggis?
I wasn't in charge of the food...but I slappe dmy head anyway. What is Burns Night with NO HAGGIS!!! Nor any Ode to a Haggis read! Or the piping in thereof?
I asked if it was too late to order and got told by the chairperson..it probably was.
Lord...I feel miserable!!
