"I am not a number I am a free man"
The Prisoner, Patrick McGoohan passed away today at the age of 80 after a short illness.
He was also known for his role as King Edward Longshanks in Braveheart and earlier for his role as Danger Man.
He will be missed.

Patrick McGoohan was always a riveting actor.
I grew up with The Prisoner (though I only had the opportunity to watch a few of his "Secret Agent" episodes (Danger Man in the UK).
I remember as a child as the father/vet in Disney's "The Nine Lives of Thomasina" and a very memorable turn in the 80's as a villain in "Jamaica Inn" with Jane Seymour.
He will be missed

One of my childhood favorites was McGoohan as the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh on the Wonderful World of Disney. I also caught repeats of him on episodes of Columbo that he directed and made some Prisoner references.

Along with Dr. Hannibal Lecter, Longshanks was a villain I thoroughly enjoyed because of his panache. I'm not sure who else could've pull that role off the way he did.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

Patrick McGoohan has always been one of my favorite actors.
When I was recently deployed over to the Gulf, I took along the entire Prisoner series on DVD to watch again. I had seen a few episodes over the years but not the entire series since it was first on TV in the late 1960s. McGoohan guided much of the writing for the series and it is well worth watching for its many messages about modern society.
I also liked him in Braveheart. He dominated every scene he was in.
I will miss him.

Iron Maiden's "the Prisoner" after the show, has some of the dialogue in the beginning.

Not everyone can play villains and heroes with equal ability - he was one of those who could.
I will have to watch The Prisoner again now.
