I'm sold on the House of Gael hangers for my hand sewns...WalMart plastic with extra clips works well for the others.

I also have several House of Gaels, purchased with their travel luggage kit, which is also nice. I did, however, have one of the hangers split just exactly where several of us xmts members predictied it would happen, and the company promptly replaced it. Their system of hanger is like three parallel hangers in one, each with two clips, with one bar for the front apron, the middle one for the rear apron, and the third hanger for the pleated rear section. The hanger also nicely has a pants style bar for other things you might wish to hang like ties or belts, and cutouts for waistcoat shoulders, besides being shaped like a normal mens dress coat hanger so you can hang your jacket around the whole deal. Overall a nice design, and compact enough for travelling.

What I have found, however, is that the hanger width is not long enough for my rather oversized kilts, and I have a significant amount of fabric hanging outboard of the clips at either end no matter hwo I manipulate them. As such the outer ends of my kilts tend to sag when they are on these hangers in long term storage. So personally, I do not tend to leave my kilts on their hangers for long periods other than when travelling. I store mine on the Scotweb hangers I referenced above. I will use the Gaels for travel becasue of all the other convenience factors, and that they fit in a standard garment bag more easily.

    one man's opinion.

My SWK hanger works for my 13 oz kilt but for the SWK Heavyweight I use two regular p@nt$ hangers. I fold the kilt in half with the aprons together and use one for the pleats, the other for the aprons. Then fold the two sections together to hang. Works great.

Already tried that, it didn't work.

I'm pretty sure it's the legit kilt hanger, not the glorified skirt hanger BEEDEE mentioned. I'll play around with it and see what happens. Thanks fellas.

I use the three hanger method, works well for me, also was nice when I had to hang it to let it dry, although my acrylic from SWK didn't really take any time at all to dry in our dry dry winter weather place.

I have tried a couple different things. Found some clips at Target that snap onto a plastic hanger that has rubber on the inside of the clip. It works well on my 13oz. kilt. If you are going to the Dragonmeade Sat. night I will bring it if you would like to se it.

I have a couple of the smaller (plastic) ones that Jerry sells and they work great for the SWK economies and the other lightweight kilts that I have. But the the heavy-duty metal ones will hold just about anything you want to throw at them. One even holds my WPG Gordon and those kilts are beastly.

I just fold my as if I were wearing them and clamp the hanger on em.

And after reading the thread by the Wizard of BC mentioned earlier, I tried that and that works great as well. Plus the hangers are the right price!

I use the SWK heavy duty hangers, they are not expensive, and do a much better job than the ones that come with the kilt for the heavyweights. I also have a Thrifty and that one works fine on the smaller hangers,

I also recall the hangers being fairly inexpensive, however it's been awhile since I've been to one.
My wife has a few of these for her skirts and such. I used the 2 hangar method with these. Was carrying my kilt, PC, shirt, and an extra shirt for next day all on hangers to put in my car for a trip. Got concerned when I hung up 2 of these wood bar hangers without a kilt. Turned around and there was my nice new expensive kilt laying in the middle of the street Haven't used since.

There is a Celtic import store not too far from me that sells way overpriced off-the-rack heavyweight kilts, but they are all hung on these long hangers with 5 metal clips. These kilts are heavyweights and yet are really secure on the hangars. I keep meaning to ask where they get those from...

I use the IKEA hangers, for most of my kilts I use one hanger and have it so that the hanger goes through the belt loops, for a 4 yard box pleat even without belt loops I need only one hanger.

For an 8 yard 16 oz and up without belt loops, like a kilt by Barb Tewksbury or my What Price Glory Gordon Highlander I use two hangers.

I was at IKEA last weekend and these hangers were on sale 10 for $5.00, a good price for them if you ask me.
