The only kilt I own at present is an eight yard kilt made out of tartan produced in Scotland. I believe it is 14 or 15 oz. It was made by a friend who is an experienced kilt maker. Unfortunately, she no longer makes kilts. It is very well made.

My Campbell Argyle from Geoffrey Tailor was well worth the price. I agree that no kilt swings like a full, heavy, "whole-nine-yards" kilt.

I remember the reactions at the games when the first casual kilts hit the market. Many talked (often not very discretely) about these guys wearing their kilts too low. ot about the way they swing. (or didn't)

I remember my brother calling some poor fellow's kilt a "McRoebucks".

For the record, he now wears his utilikilt with a fair amount of regularity.

I own a few "plastic" kilts, and they do have their place. Noting will ever compare to the Fine tailored woolens though.

Mine is an 8 yard knife pleated MacDoanld of the Isle Hunting ancient colours from marton mills jura range 16oz from scottishkilts.net and it is a thing of rare beauty. My dad's is an 8yd MacDonald modern lochcarron 13oz form Lawries now Hector Russell Glasgow. I think that mine looks and swings better being heavier but that is my opinion.

I own an 8/9? yard hand sewn kilt of 16 oz Crawford (modern) tartan made for me about 1984/5 in Glasgow by the above Gentlemen. I might have misspelled their name but they are still in business. When I had my kilt made they were a small shop on High Street. I recently needed to have some repair done and looked them up on the web. Looks like they now have three or four locations. They made me a fine garment and I'm happy to see they are still in business nearly a quarter century later. I doubt that I will need another kilt in my lifetime

I'm not entirely sure if my tank is hand sewn, but I believe it is. It's a 7.5 yard 13oz. from Thomas Gordon & Sons Ltd. in a really dark Black Watch.

Well, though new to the club, I have an old Murray of Atholl tank (see photos on the Traditional Kilt Forum) which seems to be at least 18oz., in a strange, irregular version of the weave, pleated to the stripe, and altered by clumsy (soldier?) hands. I also now have a traditional (16 oz.?) Davidson, pleated to the sett. And a lighter Grant, too small for me (34" waist X 22" L).
