    So where is it

I just received notification from Marton Mills that the X Marks Tartan fabric should be shipped from the weavers on Monday the 15th of Dec.

It usually takes about two to two and a half weeks for fabric to get to me.
I should be able to announce that the fabric is being cut and mailed out to the members who have ordered during the period of the first and second week of 2009.

    "Doing a happy dance!"
    So any word?

No, there has been no fabric arrive on my doorstep.

I was getting concerned as Marton Mills has not charged my card which they usually do when they ship.

I called them Yesterday but due to the time difference I missed the lady I have been dealing with. I then back up my request for an update via email.

You can be sure I will post in big letters the moment I know anything.

They've been running behind recently. My "Tara / Murphy" tartan was supposed to be here the middle of Dec or the beginning of Jan. I'm still waiting for IT to ship.

I am sorry everybody but my inner math geek kicked in upon seeing those numbers:

    220 m of X Marks tartan ~= 660 ft;
300 ft to a football field [I know a Soccer/ ROW football field can vary in length but it is close] =2.5 football field lengths
assume a roll is ~2 yards or 6 ft wide = 12 feet of width

ERGO the Wizard could cover HALF of his local Football field with TARTAN

OR he could let the seething rabble have their token scraps

    For the math geeks-------

    230 linear meters = 754.593 linear feet.

    754.593 linear feet X 12 = 9055.18 linear inches

The fabric is 60 inches wide

    9055.18 linear inches X 60 = 543,307.08 square inches

    1 square foot = 144 square inches

    543,307.08 square inches / 144 = 3772.9658 square feet

A standard doubles tennis court is 78 ft. X 36 ft. or 2808 square feet.

The fabric will cover 1 1/3 tennis courts.

Just what does this all mean?

When the fabric does indeed arrive I will need three pairs of newly sharpened scissors to cut it all into the lengths ordered by each member.
Then it will be a few late nights cutting and labeling each piece so I don't mess up someones' order.
Then print up all the mailing labels. (note to self - get spare ink cartridges) (and don't forget extra labels for the printer)
Then putting all the fabric in boxes with the correct label on each.
47 trips to the post office. (put gas in the car.)
About 3 weeks later have one large Scotch and a nap.

Please be patient folks. The first run of X Marks Tartan fabric was only 58 meters. Just a little more than a minimum order. It took me four days to get all that into the mail. I did all the work during the normal work day and got behind on sewing Kilts. I can't do that now. I'll have to do this in the evening after I close the shop.
This order is 5 times as much fabric. Just lugging the bolts around can wear out an old man like me.

I guess what I'm asking is for patience. I know it's been a long time waiting for this run of X Marks Tartan and some of you are getting antsy.
I'll get the fabric out to you all just as soon as I can but it won't be the same day it arrives.

Anybody want an X Marks Clan Crest Cap Badge put in their box with the fabric?

When did that have to be ordered, I thought that was before I joined here. Can we place orders on the next cycle via the kiltmakers (ordering as a kilt) or is it more of a 'do it yourself' thing?

    sathor,

We officially began the ordering process for this years run of X Marks Tartan fabric on the 3rd of Sep. 2008.

I was accepting orders until the 30th of Sep.

Each year for the past 5 years we have had a run of X Marks Tartan fabric.
In the past we have ordered 13oz. & 16oz. Merino Wool from Fraser & Kirkbright.

This year we ordered 12oz P/V from Marton Mills.

It is up to each member to order the fabric they wish. If the member wants a Kiltmaker to sew their Kilt they contact the Kiltmaker individually to arrange for the Kiltmaker to receive the fabric from me and then sew the Kilt.

The member pays me for the fabric and the Kiltmaker for sewing the Kilt.
When the fabric arrives at my shop, from the weaver, I then ship it off direct to the the Kiltmaker.

With the response we had on this years run of fabric I chose to order a bit extra. I will make a post when all the fabric has been sent to the members who have already paid and let everyone know how much is left over and available.
