The unladen swallows showed up!
Good afternoon!!
The kilt $DEITIES were very, VERY good to me today. First, I'd ordered a new Sgian Dubh from Matt, and then the MacRae Ancient Hunting custom I'd ordered from Jerry at Stillwater showed up.
For the custom MacRae, I just have never been able to convince myself to hem a decent kilting selvedge, and my legs are just too short to be able to carry off an off-the-rack 24" kilt. Since it was a custom order, I had it pleated to the white stripe instead of to the sett (a minor error on my part, I think: now that I've seen the tartan up close and personal, I think I should have had it pleated to the red stripe).
The Sgian Dubh can be found here. I'd ordered the Tay (search for SD99 on the page). The original stone I'd ordered with it was backordered, so, when I called, I was offered something called Heatherstone. I've never seen it before, but the whole kit and kaboodle looks very nice.
Pictures will be forthcoming, but they'll have to wait until tonight until someone older than 3 is available to handle the camera.
And, for those that are going to the Chicago area kilt night on the 31st, I'll wear it then.

Reason: Clarifying which Jerry we were talking about. I really need to start doing better proofreading.

Sorry, I'd thought which Jerry would be understandable by context: Jerry V from Stillwater Kilts.

wait, you mean you can custom order from Jerry? Now I'm really confused.

Well, they were unladen when they left, and I guess that's the important thing!

Yes, you can (on a case-by-case basis). It's kind of down in the fine print. Since Jerry doesn't make his own, you don't get the delivered-before-you-ordered-it responsiveness you usually get. In point of fact, this particular kilt was ordered about a week after the Hunting MacRaes went on sale back in October (at least, I seem to remember it was October).
We'd had a minor problem and they'd actually had to go back and make a second one due to a typo (the original was made for a 30" waist, and I've got a 38" waist).
So, it took a bit, but it's back.
I've already taken an iron to it and shaped the left edge of the apron, and things look pretty spiff, if I do say so myself.
Again, pics once the spouse gets home.

Was this an unladen European or unladen African Swallow?
