As long as the temperature was above -10 C (15 F) below that there was the danger of frostbite on our knees. As we were doing calisthenics and playing either soccer or rugby, we kept quite warm.
I'm usually fine in the cold as long as my core and head (I'm lacking natural head cover) stay warm.
Most pants are very thin even the winter wool slacks.
