Shooting Socks
I see from the archives that there has been some discussion in the past about the similarity between Kilt Hose and Shooting Socks. Here are a couple of sites offering Shooting Socks (your friends at Google can show you more).

They seem to be less expensive, and less conservative in colour and style (not that that's necessarily a bad thing) than the sources for Kilt Hose.
Cheers,
John

The Rannoch hose listed in the first link are Made by House of Cheviot and I believe available from several kilt vendors, I believe even STM (although I could be mistaken withthis one) as their Lewis Hose. They can also be found at a very reasonble price at the below website:
http://www.bagpipecovers.com/hose.html
listed as their "superior hose".
Same place also has a decent price for Hawick Socks House of Cheviot tartan hose in limited color schemes.

If someone were shooting MY socks, I imagine I'd frown on such destructive behaviour.

It looks like the difference is all in the name.

At first I thought they meant 'unwearoutable' was in the context that you wouldn't wear it out of your house... now I see.

They're the equivalent of Barbour jackets for your feet and legs.
