Same type of thing happened to a friend of mine in Southern France last year and the credit Card Company had him a card the next day he was able to enjoy the rest of his trip. It did take him most of the next day to get it worked out but he was in France for two more weeks.
Still last time I was in Mexico I only carried $50 cash and the credit card on my person the rest was in the safe in the hotel.

Your safe and that's what counts.
