Cream when really casual (boots instead of shoes), colored the rest of the time, argyle for formal.

I don't wear hose. I just try to match my crocks to my wife heater... LOL
I have to say that there are no hard rules for me. I do like the idea of trying to compliment the kilt. matching to a stripe with the flashes is not something I have tried, but it sounds like it would look great.
I really never have gone for the Khaki shirt and hose. I always feel like I'm in uniform or something. I like the look on others. Just.... not on me.

My tartan, Lockhart, is predominantly navy and dark green, with a 4-thread red stripe. I have hose in all those colors, in addition to white and cream/off white. I usually wear the white ones when I play the 'pipes for a funeral. If I'm playing a wedding or something, I like to wear the red ones. I don't wear the blue or green ones much at all, and I haven't worn the off-white in a couple of years. I bought them in Salzburg, Austria, by the way, so they're not really kilt hose. The ones I just finished knitting are a sort of dark red, and I just turned the heel on a royal blue sock that I might turn into Saltire hose, with white Xs in the leg.
More info than you wanted, but that's my story.

I tend to do as Ozman1944 does by matching hose with shirt. My problem is finding a variety of hose color. That limits what I have available. Right now I have black, dark blue, dark green, Oatmeal. I find I am picking the shirt to match what limited hose color I have.

Diced hose....Take the 2 prominent colors, and take a lesser color for the flashes...DICED HOSE ALL THE TIME!

I vote for giving kilt hose their own sub forum!
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

The tartan I usually wear is primarily red with blue and white stripes. For casual wear, I usually wear blue hose with red fashes. I wear cream or off white hose for dressy or formal wear in the evening.
