    Fan that I am of the horsehair sporran, I think today's commercially available lot are rather cheap looking, compared to those we see in photos of 50-100 years ago. I say this because they appear to be considerably shorter than used to be worn. In the period I'm referring to the horsehair sporran reached to just the edge of the kilt, or perhaps two inches below the hem of the kilt. Likewise the tassels were longer-- almost as long as the sporrans sold today. Today's short horsehair sporrans lack, in my opinion, the elegance of those worn fifty plus years ago.

    I completely agree. I resorted to learning leather work and making my own. Its great fun!
