At ur most recent Nor Cal Rabble Burns Night, thomsec showed up in the Uniformalwearhouse single button Eton jacket and the backless three button vest...
and it looked VERY nice. He'd gotten some nice pewter cast diamond buttons in different sizes to dress up the jacket and vest and it looked fantastic.

A number of people have commented about the inappropriateness adn naivete of wearing a 'waiters jacket" as formal attire. Truth is, that while I wrote the first post about "formalwear on the cheap" I had never actually SEEN one of the Uniformalwearhouse Etons, though I own and wear their three-button backless vest. When thomsec told me that was what he was wearing I was quite impressed, he looked *great*.
Is it a Prince Charlie? No, it's a different style, much like a spencer. However with the addition of the pewter buttons I think you can forge ahead on a budget and not worry in the slightest about committing a kilt "don't". Just make SURE that you order the SINGLE BUTTON Eton, and not the three-button, if you go this route.
