Welcome from Michigan,USA! I believe there is a Irish clan Dunne. Try Electric Scotland, they have a decent search engine for names.

Hi Chas,
welcome to Xmarks from a fellow UK kiltie.
Incidentally, no man looks a fool in a kilt. I know it takes a little courage to wear it in public when not attending an event where kilts are to be expected, but I think you will find that many people do not give you a second glance, and those that do will only admire you.
As for events, well, there's Harpenden and Ashbourne Highland gatherings in the summer. There's two for starters!

from Arizona, USA!
You've got some good ideas from others on this thread. It will be especially helpful to get to know the guys from the UK. They'll know how to get you out and about.

Hello All,
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Chris(Redshank), great link - I have already made the phone call and am meeting one of their members tomorrow - not that I want to learn how to do Scottish dancing, but I think that Margaret and I would enjoy being ‘kilted observers’.
Martin – thanks for the info about the gatherings – both dates firmly in my diary. Margaret’s got all excited and I keep hearing the expression “I’ll need a new outfit”.
Todd (cajunscot), I have been thinking about the Aberdeen tartan. Everyone in the UK knows the Royal Stewart and as nice as it is, I would like something else that was not instantly recognisable. The Aberdeen tartan is certainly bright and eye catching enough.
Margaret is ½ Macleod (direct descent from whoever was the clan chief in 1650) and ½ Dugdale (directly descended from William Dugdale, the famous Herald and King of Arms). I was thinking of one of the Macleod tartans, but most of them seem to be very drab.
Turpin, thanks for the Scotweb link – that is an awesome tartan finder, far superior to the Electric Scotland one. The Dunn tartan is quite nice – I rather fancy myself in that rich purple. Unfortunately it belongs to a bloke called Dunn living in Toronto and it is copyright to him and his immediate family.
Anyway, thanks again all – I’ve got lots to work with and think about now.
Regards
Chas
