Congratulations on your upcoming wedding (run). Whom ever you go with ensure that you take your measurements according to your specific kilt maker. You've never ordered a kilt before (perhaps never worn one) a waist measurement for a kilt is not you trouser waist measurement.

There is a bit of a difference. I will leave the technically stuff to someone mor ein the know than I.
Hand sewn is the more desirable option. Having said that the machine sewn kilts are fantastically well made and will serve you well for many, many years.

As you will want to look your absolute best on your wedding day, a 16 oz 8 yard kilt is your best bet.
As has been mentioned you have plenty time until August, so do your homework and find yourself a good kiltmaker, who will personally answer all your questions.
A kilt properly made, in the correct weight wool will last you a lifetime, so good luck in buying your first kilt, and congratulations on your forthcoming wedding.
Kind Regards,
David.
