I've found that even traditional kilts go very well with a lot of things the old rulemakers (who are these folks??) never conceived of.

Love it! My old, faded Levi jacket is an integral part of my kilt wearing when it's cool out. Why, because it's cut "right" for the kilt (IMHO, of course), and it goes well (color-wise) with all the tartan and contemporary kilts I have. So yeah, I don't need no stinkin' rules--"conforming" is not (nor has it ever been) in my nature. Hell, I'm just an old Punk rocker who recently discovered wearing the kilt. I do, however, appreciate the tradition of Highland dress and I greatly enjoy looking at and learning from others who wear the kilt in a traditional manner.
BTW, what is the tartan he's wearing?
