Not sure how it ended up there, I had intended it to go into the accessories forum and given that its daytime here I can't even claim vino as an excuse for idleness/clumsiness in typing and mouse button pushing.ith:

Thanks, as I say I had intended it to be there all along.

I am a fan of tweed caps, but not with the kilt. As to those baseball hat things I make no comment.

How and what people choose to wear is ,of course, up to them and it is also their right to look like a lemon, if they so choose.
Well, Jock, I'm one of the Kilt-wearing Scots who disagree.
I think flat caps in a more traditional style can look great with a Kilt.
I wear one of the 'Jacobite' (Read 18th century) Kilt bonnets my wife made. They are floppy so that they can be worn in many styles as shown historically. I often wear it pulled forward in the style of a flat cap and think it compliments the look of my Kilt outfit.
I'd even wear it pulled into a Balmoral style for formal events!

As a resident of the state of Tennessee I would wear my black balmoral (no dicing) if attending games in Scotland. I would wear it if attending games in the USA or Canada for that matter. But I do own a made in Scotland, Harris Tweed, flat cap, that I do wear with the kilt in a casual manner. Usually when I'm attending the meetings of our Scottish Society. When at a Scottish Games, I am usually manning a tent for my clan society or the Scottish Society. So I dress with more of a "uniform" style. That's means my s/s officer shirt with the embroidered clan badge, the balmoral, and usually tan hose. I would not wear the flat cap in this situation. I have worn a wide brimmed straw hat due to sun and heat. But since I now have the balmoral, I wear that instead.

If I were to attend a games as a guest and not in any official capacity, I would wear the best daywear outfit that the weather permitted and it would include the balmoral.

But just for mucking about, I'd go with the flat cap. It's what I wear nearly every day anyways. So as not to cause an international controversy, when I do get the opportunity to visit Scotland, I will not wear the flat cap with the kilt. I'd probably just go without.

I think it's funny that half of your xmarks posts are repetitive remarks about your disapproval of wearing hat that many people accept as common apparel in the US. On the other hand, you use the pith smiley, which is a very unusual hat to wear with a kilt, especially for a night out. That said, they both fit certain people's personalities and preferences.

However, since in many cases I'm just using the kilt as another article of clothing, it doesn't really bother me. Maybe that's because, as a "new-worlder", I'm pretty well blended myself.
The more I sit and think about it the more I think I may be right. The first time I saw a flat cap worn with a kilt was at a Regimental Games. A very junior officer who is English was wearing his kilt with a checked shirt, cravat, and flat cap. I remember the RSM approaching, saluting and saying:

"Ah! Mr Chomodoly-Warner you have the look of an Englishman wearing a kilt, Sir, aye an Englishman wearing a kilt" salutes and wanders off.

He pronounced Chomodoly as 'Ker-mod-olly' which added to the general put down effect.

As of late there seem to be a great number of discordant threads about hats on a forum meant for kilts.

The Kilt Police - they'll occasionally let their guard down, take a break, and have a pint with you.

But beware the Hat Police! They're ever vigilant. Always on the job. ith:

Hi Arlen, how are you doing? I am thinking more of the tweed type of flat cap not the "Jacobite" sort, although I am not keen of those either! Of course you are in the midst of flat capped American kilt wearers so I would expect you to have had a certain amount of influence brought to bare!
