    new buckle

I just got this Don McKee buckle for my 63rd birthday (tomorrow) (I also got a bottle of Laphroig Quarter Cask as a belated Christmas and birthday prezzie).

The buckle is beautiful. Stunning, really. Everything I hoped it would be, but...

I am a bit of a DIY'er and have a bridle leather belt blank cut and ready for this buckle. The only trouble is that the buckle has this wide bar-type "prong" rather than the standard pin prong. So I don't know exactly how it was meant to be mounted and closed. Was it intended to hook onto some sort of metal "loop?" Or could I just cut slots in lieu of holes and hook it directly into the leather?

[this maybe should have gone into DIY and if the mods want to move it, that;'s Ok but I am looking for advice.]

    Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like it would fit the metal loop on a kilt belt.

Well, that's what I thought too. But where in the world do you get a metal loop all by itself?

    Any ideas?

I've been looking for them myself, with no luck. If anyone has a source, please post it.

I've been thinking of making one out of wire.

    Hey yall!

These doo-hickies are fantastic for all manner of things:

It can be purchased at www.duluthtrading.com for $6.50. Very useful jig for countless chores. Bends up to 3/16" wire.

I'd bend the loop for the buckle to fit then temper with fire.

    Slan yall,
    steve
