Lots of photos and I'll try to get some photos of the new kilt.
Malcolm
Thank you for the link. I "Bookmarked it" even though your "time period" is earlier than mine. (mine 'War of 1812 +++)

Some answers - Mael: When I ordered the kilt, I told Matt Newsome that I was partial to dark reds and blacks in a tartan and was not especially interested in a clan tartan (I'm a Gunn and have tartans of similarity). So, he suggested Red Campbell, a tartan not accepted as a clan tartan by Clan Campbell, but shown in a portrait of a Campbell lad in the 1600s (can't find the link for that portrait, but I'll keep looking, it's a great portrait!). So, that's what I got.
1MONK3 - If you are interested in reenacting, let me know. We are a non-profit educational organization (incorporated) that portrays 3 time periods: French and Indian War (77th Regiment, Grenadiers), American War of Independence (42nd RHR Grenadiers), and Jacobites (Clan Chattan of which I portray Col. MacGilivary). We can usually field 15 to 20 men, are good at authenticity and we FIGHT, as good Highlanders do! If interested, use my personal email: sjtmmacwm@comcast.net
PUFFER - you do War of 1812?? We are trying to get to Waterloo for the 2010 reenactment. I have been in contact with a group from UK that portrays 42nd in hopes they can lend us kit....about 5 of my company are interested.

When will you be at Jerusalem Mills? I love the Gunpowder Falls area and it would be a great reason to go.

Geoff: Large reenactment at Jerus. Mills, weekend of May 16. Should be 600 or so Brits and even a greater number of Continentals. Look me up. I'm easy to find. Just go into British camp and ask for Malcolm MacWilliam, Army Sjt. Major.
Mael: We'll be doing Under the Redcoat at Williamsburg the last weekend of June. Stop in and see us.

Hello Malcolm,
I would be very interested. You should be receiving an e-mail from me in the very near future. I'm currently Rep./ Regent for Clan Cameron in my region (New England) and I'm involved in various things throughout the year. One thing I've always wanted to do was link up with a group of like minded souls and do a wee bit of reenacting. I'm well versed in the Jacobite period. I've studied it most my life. I am fond of all Scottish History though so I do not limit myself. That just would not be fun. I would be interested in all three periods that your group portrays. Again, you shall be hearing from me soon. Thank you.
Yours Aye,
Sean

It all looks like good fun but my God some of those kilts are being worn a bit short!
The Kilt is my delight !

Freddie....yes, some of the lads do get them short at times! The research that is done from portraits of the 1600s and 1700s do show the kilts worn shorter than modern times, so we do emulate that. Also, remember that we handpleat these on the ground each morning when we are at events, so there are some lads who are quite proud of their legs, I guess!! We once had a Captain of our unit who we joked wore the mini-kilt!! We try to keep the length just above or a few "fingers" above the knee. I've been doing this so long that if my kilt falls to the knee or below, it doesn't feel right. Malcolm
