Chas,

I think it would be absolutely wonderful if we could have a stickied closed thread entitled:

X Marks the Scot Ultimate Guide to Wearing the Kilt!

In it there would be detailed notes and descriptions of how to wear a kilt be it casual, business, semi-formal, and formal (including black and white tie).

Classic style vs any acceptable Modern variants would be gone over thoroughly.

Of course there will be sections on contemporary kilts...

...and filled with photos and illustrations.

It is a really great idea and would be very helpful to all interested in wearing the kilt.

The only problem is, who would write it?

There are so many different takes on what is appropriate or acceptable, and what works for one person doesn't work for others.

XMTS has an absolutely wonderfully diverse membership. When we talk about kilts and kilted fashion there are a myriad of opinions. We can disagree about whether one outfit works or not and in this discourse we help others develop their own sense of style.

This is why such a thread wouldn't work. There are far too many fine points that we couldn't come to a consensus on.

There is no one single "XMTS" take on kilts (well except for the pleats must go in the back! perhaps )

The "Style threads" and the "Best of the Best" photo threads as JocK Scot previously mentioned are a great way for someone to get a sense of kilted style and make their own choices.

I liken the opinions on XMTS in regards to kilts to reading movie reviews. There are some movie critics whose opinions and reasoning behind those those opinions make sense to you.

Those are the ones you pay attention to and the recommendations you follow.

Yet you still may gain an insight from someone you don't normally follow.

Personally I pay a lot of attention to when Hamish, Jock Scot, Matt Newsome, Phil, and McMurdo post their thoughts and pictures (even if these gentlemen do not have exactly the same take on kilts and kilted fashion.)

From them I learn and my own "look" continues to evolve.

But I still get great information and feedback from others.

Some I take to heart, some I don't.

But I appreciate and respect the time and effort of these good Ladies and Gentlemen when offer their advice and comments to me.

It would be pretty boring if all we did on X Marks the Scot.com was universally agree on every point, every idea, and every outfit posted.

No one would learn and no one would have a chance to develop and grow.

It is a great idea, but the collective knowledge, ideas, and diversity of XMTS is even greater!

:blimp:

Cheers

Jamie
