    First heavyweight wool kilt...

So I know that I will still owe a picture of it after this post, but I received my very first heavyweight wool kilt on Friday. It was a closeout Australian Merino Wool SWK Black Watch heavyweight in a 30" waist. A great buy for such a fabulous kilt.

First impressions... this is a totally different animal from the SWK Thrifty's I've been wearing. It took me a minute or two to get the hang of it, and at first I thought I'd royally goofed in my measurements because it just didn't feel like it fit or felt right. Then i looked down and noticed it was hanging quite low... I didn't have it positioned high enough for everything to fall into place. In hindsight I probably could have used a 31 or 32 to allow for extra adjustment room down the road, but I'm not complaining. I also would not expect 'like a glove' fit in an off-the-rack kilt. Once I got everything situated, it was amazing... The pleats, the weight of the material, and the solidity of the kilt as a whole is wonderfully reassuring and, dare I say empowering! Now I understand how a true kilt is supposed to be constructed, fits, and functions. The next step is a custom one in my family tartan, but I have to wait a bit on that one. With all that said, I wore one of my SWK Thrifty's for a walk around the lake today and enjoyed it thoroughly. There is a place for both kinds, but I am certainly spoiled by the heavyweight. Pictures to come, I promise!

    Congratulations.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

The SWK Black Watch was my first kilt, and when I lost weight and needed a new one, it was the first kilt I bought in a smaller size.
